FreightCar America’s commitment to continuous improvement and innovation is exem-
plified in the AutoFlood III™. This aluminum rotary coal hopper car has a lightweight
of 49,400 pounds with capacity to haul 236,600 lbs of coal. The car can be automatically
unloaded using the MegaFlo™ auto discharge system as well as being rotary dumped.
The AutoFlood III features a smooth interior, steep slope sheets, three double-door pock-
ets in the center and single-door pockets at the ends. The door system closes with tension
rather than compression and no periodic door adjustments are required.
The AutoFlood III uses the FreightCar America patented cold rolled center sill. This
lightweight, 70ksi yield steel backbone is used in every coal car built by FreightCar Amer-
ica.
