VR AA 'American Saloon' car - 1 (dining car/Albert)
In 1874, the Victorian Railways purchased a 'saloon' type end platform loader passenger car from Gilbert Bush in Troy, USA. This carriage became the pattern car for a series of 'American Saloon' cars build by various 'butty gang' companies in and around Melbourne for the Victorian Railways. These cars went through multiple reclassifications (AA, AB, BB, etc), renumberings, and modifications. By the 1940s, these cars were becoming extremely dated, with some nearing 70 years old. As these cars were replaced by more modern carriages, the Victorian Railways modified these cars for use as Workmans Sleeping carriages.

This model represents a AA class first class dining car in Crimson Lake livery, also known as 'Albert'. This carriage also features automatic random numbering, ACS animated screwlink couplers, airbrake hoses/taps, and safety chains, as well as a functioning tail lamp (night only) and tail disc when placed at the rear of the train.
