ZR DD T4 Christmas 2021 BLW Ten

Victorian Railways DD class - Type 4 - Christmas 2021 - Baldwin Built - Tender
Constructed between 1903 and 1920, the Victorian Railways DD/D1 class locomotive was designed as a mixed traffic locomotive, with capabilities of also hauling mainline passenger services. Eventually numbering 260 members, the 'D series' locomotives were constructed by both the Victorian Railways and outside locomotive builders, including the Phoenix Foundry in Ballarat, the Baldwin Locomotive works in the USA, and others. Over time, many of the class were rebuilt or modified with superheaters, larger cylinders, and larger boilers. These rebuilds and modifications lead to the introduction of 'sub classes', these being 'D1' (original DD class locomotives), 'D2' (superheated, with larger cylinders), and 'D3' (larger superheated boiler and electric lighting). The DD class locos also saw a number of variations in the early years of the class. The 'Type 4' DD class were the first locomotives on the VR to adopt what would become the standard styling for the next 20 years, with a raised footplate above the wheels, and the 'Canadian' cab. The DD class wore a number of liveries through their lives, with the type 4 starting their lives in Canadian Red livery, which was a deep rich red with white lining and chocolate 'background'; which was later simplified into straight red with white lining around the time of World War One. From the 1920s, the Victorian Railways painted all locos in plain black, which all surviving 'D' series locos received.

This model represents the 'Type 4' DD class locomotives, as built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works in 1912, in the Canadian Red livery as running between 1912 and 1925, numbered in the following ranges 571-605 (odd numbers only).

The loco is presented in a freelance Christmas 2021 livery with decorations and lights, with 3 optional levels of weathering. Many locos stayed in close to new condition for some time after entering service, due to the high standards of cleaning that were applied during the period when locos wore the colourful lined liveries. This high standard of cleaning allegedly helped improve efficiency, by ensuring a reflective sheen on the boiler and dome cladding, prior to the introduction of more flexible and more efficient insulation products and techniques. This model is fitted with screwlink couplings, safety chains, and is set for the prototypical Broad Gauge (5ft3in gauge), for use with layouts with 5ft3in gauge track.

This locomotive features the 'ACS' script by James Moody (bloodnok) to control animated couplers and brake hoses, and also includes James Moody's marker lamp code (to control the marker lamps, and tail lamps and tail discs). The locomotive also has controlable cab windows, cab doors, roof vent, and weather tarp, all of which are linked to the same in the cab view, as well as a controllable smokebox door, animated brake shoes, scripted brake hiss and brake squeal, and scripted working reverser and valve gear. A custom highly detailed interior view is also included. Various scripted smoke and sound effects are included, including air compressor, injectors, sander, blower, as well as scripted main smoke effect and cylinder drain effect, based on the regulator and cut-off or the steam chest pressure. The loco and tender also feature a 'snow' option, set via the snow-line option in your session or route.

I hope you enjoy using this model.
