VR F Class 2-4-2t-NB-C
VR F class 2-4-2t - Canadian Red - Full Bunker
In 1910-11 the Victorian Railways converted a number of their F class 2-4-0 tender locos into 2-4-2t tank locos. The conversion involved the addition of a bunker at the back of the cab, side tanks, a new cab, and a radial axle under the bunker. The conversion was designed as a shortened kitson E class (2-4-2t). The conversion was designed for the Essendon to Broadmeadows, Ashburton to Deepdene, Burnley to Darling, and other similar 'suburban motor' services. The converted locos retained their original locos, numbered 172-184 (even numbers only), with numbers 174, 178, and 184 having a split bunker and door at the rear of the cab.
The F class locos lasted in suburban motor service into the 1920s, running the Deepdene Dasher and Ballarat to Buningyong services. The locos initially wore the VR's Canadian Red livery, and were repainted after 1920 into plain black. Although the first F class withdrawn from VR service (withdrawn in 1920), F176 was sold to the H.V.McKay Sunshine Harvester Works where it acted as the shunter until the 1960s when it was sold to the ARHS museum, where it is now preserved in Canadian Red. The remaining locos were withdrawn in 1925 (F182), 1926 (F178, F180, F184), 1928 (F172), 1929 (F174), with F178 being retained as a boiler washout engine at North Melbourne loco depot until 1951.
This model represents the F class locos as converted with a standard full width bunker, in Canadian Red livery. The loco includes scripted marker lamps and tail discs, ACS animated screwlink couplers, brake hoses, and safety chains, automatic numbering, animated front windows, animated rear windows, and animated cab roof vent.
I hope you enjoy using this locomotive
