CRHRGA

Commonwealth Railways Power/Brakevan HRGA -
In 1952 the Commonwealth Railways imported two nine car passenger consists from
Wegmann in West Germany, for use on their Trans Line between Kalgoorlie in WA
and Port Pirie in SA. The consist of each train (from the rear) was: first class
sleeper-observation car-ARF, two first class sleeping cars-ARD, lounge car-AFA, dining car-DC,
second class sleeper/lounge-BRF,two second class sleeping cars-BRB, and combination brake/power van-HRGA.
The total weight of the nine cars was approximately 440 tons.
The HRGA Power/Brakevan was a combination car. In the engine room compartment,two 125KW generating sets
supplied 415v AC power to the train, there was a small goods compartment, a Guards compartment, and
sleeping accommodation for ten train crew. - There was a slightly raised observation section above the roof,
in the centre of the car.
