Brisbane Four Motor Tramcar 480

A total of 155 Four Motor type tramcars were built by the Brisbane City Council between 1938 and 1964. Trams were built in batches.
Each batch would introduce subtle changes to the style of the car i.e. upholstered padded seating was introduced in 1947.
This model represents numbers between 473 and 492 which where built in 1947 and 1948.
Cars were equipped with 4x40 hp AGE247 motors mounted in trucks
built by the B.C.C. based on the Melbourne No.15 truck. Trolley pole bases were MMTB type and utilised the trolley wheel contact method.
474 was the first tram to be equipped with padded seats along with 479, 481-492.
473, 475 - 478, 480 had modified wooden seating. Here, this tram is presented with wooden seats and in the way the series would have appeared in the late 1960's.
Notice the lowered route numerals, placed in this position after numerous conductors had fallen from the cars whilst trying to change the numerals in their original location.
No.480 has been preserved and is awaiting restoration to running order at the Brisbane Tramway Museum.
