EKW 51/Tkkh 53 Milchwagen

In 1952 the company Moha from Frankfurt ordered 20 milk tankers.They were registered with DB and got the type code EKW 51 upon delivery.In the early-1960s the cars were renumbered and got the new Tkkh 53 type code.In the middle-1960s the type code was changed for a second time into Tkkhms 53 but this time without a renumbering.It was planned to add UIC numbers and the UIC type code Uhrs 980, but as all cars were withdrawn in 1968 this never happened.

They were used by the company Moha to transport hot milk from central depots where farmers deposited their milk to the Moha factories in Frankfurt-Höchst.The tanks were isolated with cork and foam so that the milk only lost 2°C of warmth within 15 hours.As freighttrains were too slow in that era, these cars were coupled to fast night trains and were treated administratively as passenger cars.
