V & T Express No 1 1872-1874

Virginia & Truckee Express No. 1 as-built 1872
Built by Kimball Manufacturing Company of San Francisco; Express No. 1 was part of a four-car set delivered to the V&T August 1872 and put into work on the unfinished Reno branch.
Once the branch line was completed, these 4 cars saw heavy service running between Reno and Virginia City.
After two years of hard use, the 4 cars were heavilly rebuilt by the V&T. At this time; Express No. 1 received air brakes and a coupola.
Periodic upgrades and repaints continued until the car was retired by 1936. In 1938, the car was sold to Paramount Pictures. Eventually the car ended up at Old Tucson, where it was destroyed in a backlot fire in 1995.

This model depicts Express No. 1 as it might have appeared from 1872 until its rebuild in 1874.
