V & T boxcar 1001 (yellow)

28' Wooden combination box car built for the Virginia & Truckee Railroad in 1872 by the Central Pacific Shops in Sacramento, CA.
Circa 1872-1880's.
9 tons unloaded; 15 ton capacity
Originally painted yellow; likely repainted red by the 1880's
Upgraded to Sams automatic couplers 1897/98; air brakes 1899/1900; and Tower knuckle couplers 1902. The ventilated hatches and doors were likely removed around this time.
Detrucked August 1917 at Huffaker's where 3/4s of the car body was removed.
Retrucked and sold to Paramount in 1938 for movie work. Converted to a simulated blacksmith car in the Sparks SP shops
Sold to Old Tucson in 1971.
Carries old west general goods, hay, fruit, and cows.
Link and pin couplers; hand brakes only
