Dump trenches are used in lignite opencast mining to transfer spoil and ashes from lignite burning power plants from spoil cars to spreaders for depositing at the final dump site. The spoil cars are side dumping their loads into the dump trench running alongside the railway track.
Located at the opposite side of the dump trench is a pair of railway tracks for the combined spreader and trench excavator. This machine removes spoil and ashes from the dump trench. Animated loads fitted with both, spoil cars and dump trench are visualizing progress of these operations.
