Los Angeles Harbor Belt Line

A representation (many liberties have been taken) of the older portion of Los Angeles Harbor as it existed around 1990. SP operated the harbor belt line for the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach -- in this incarnation out of the Pier A Yard but in reality out of Dolores several miles north of this layout area -- using a small fleet of switchers. Customers in this adaptation include the TraPac container terminal; several marine terminals handling breakbulk, scrap, autos, liquid bulk, and borax; a team track; the Conoco refinery; and a small roofing manufacturer. Scenarios feature operation of three daily switching jobs (Refinery, Canal St, Mormon Island), none of them prototypical. All include up to three AI trains hauling carload blocks from the Pier A Yard through the layout, and maybe an empty UP coal train traversing the layout from the west side.
