BR Ash Plant
Ash plant based on LMS 1930's modernisation example, the design was later used by BR with 2 units not uncommon at larger depots.
Ferro-concrete, with single (or dual road) pits that catch ash dropped from a loco during service. An open bottomed, narrow gauge wagon was also wheeled to the loco cab door to catch and direct shovelled ash into underground chutes and a collection skip below. When the skip filled with ash, automatically, the pits would seal and the skip hauled up on side rails to be tipped into two 25 ton hoppers above the loco. Later, with an appropriate wagon below, the ash was manually released. LOD: 1084, 760 and 338.
