Dual Gauge Roundhouse 1
Around 1900 standard gauge tracks were invading the D&RGW engine facility at Salida, Colorado. This is a large
dual gauge engine facility roughly based on that and was made from a pair of photos taken around 1900 and a plot plan showing
the trackage. It is not an exact replica. The plot plan doesn't show which tracks were standard gauge, narrow gauge, or dual gauge.
I assume the tracks on the turntable were 4 rail to keep the engine weight centered and simplify alignment. No power plant appears
on the plot plan but a very tall smoke stack appeared in one of the photos so I added one. Its not possible to make the coal delivery
chute behind the power house industry interactive in this item so two unloading grates (industry interactive with sound) can be found
on the DLS as separate items (kuid2:210518:1105:1 for narrow gauge and kuid:2:210518:1106:1 for standard gauge. Carefully position
one or the other by the rear of the powerhouse building. They will unload a hopper car with smoke and sound.
This item includes:
1. 65 ft 4-rail dual gauge turntable.
2. 32 stall roundhouse.
3. Attached engine repair shop.
4. Attached office and storage building.
5. Attached power station.
6. One invisible track from the turntable.
All tracks can be changed between gauges so you can make the entire item all standard gauge, all narrow gauge, or any combination in
between. Vary the ratio of standard to narrow gauge stalls by changing the kuid for the rail only track for each stall. Tracks are
numbered counter-clockwise from 0 to 33 with track-0 being the standard gauge track on the opposite end of the round house from
the attached support buildings. The separate track into the building is track-34 and is shown going around the rear of the roundhouse
on the plot plan. Track-35 is the rail on the turntable. One invisible track is provided for additional access to the turntable if desired.
It will change to whatever is attached to it. The plot plan shows the main line going in front of the roundhouse. Standard gauge
rails will cross just before reaching the pit. This is rare but not un-prototypical. This item is designed for use with Elvenors MAN6 track
components and three different rail-only tracks made by Linda Irene Tingvik (shortline2) to closely match MAN6 components. Many thanks
to her for her help. The texture surrounding the turntable pit is MAN dirt2 and matches the ballast on MAN6 track components. See the
readme file in MAN6 Dual Gauge rail only track file for how to use these components. There are matching MAN6 stub switches on the DLS.
MAN6 components are:
kuid:63290:38013 Standard Gauge only.
kuid:63290:38014 Dual Gauge Track
kuis:63290:38015 Joining Track
kuid:63290:38016 Narrow GaugeTrack
kuid:63290:38017 4 rail Track
kuid:63290:38102 Invisible Track
kuid:63290:21111 MAN dirt2
Rail only tracks by shortline2 are:
kuid:77573:38351 Narrow Gauge rail only.
kuid:77573:38004 Standard Gauge rail only.
kuid:77573:38519 Standard gauge and narrow gauge 4-rail only.
