Sulphite Bridge 1
This unusual (and rare) covered bridge is based on the one over the Winnipesaukee River
near Franklin Falls, NH on the Boston & Maine RR. The vast majority of covered bridges were thru trusses
but this (built in 1896) is a covered deck truss with iron plates under the stringers and ties. It was named
Sulphite becasuse of the large amounts of sulpher transported over it for use by nearby pulp and paper mills
and went by the nickname The Upside Down Covered Bridge.
