Merriwa
The Merriwa Branch ran from Muswellbrook on the Hunter Line through Denman and Sandy Hollow. Later the Sandy Hollow to Maryvale line was partly constructed to serve the Colliery at Ulan. The Merriwa Branch opened in 1917 and the section from Sandy Hollow to Merriwa was closed in 1988. The line rises to 366-metres as it crosses the Great Dividing Range. The ruling gradient is 2%. The CPH rail motor operated on the line. C30T and d60 locomotives worked the line also. Merriwa was the last branch line in NSW worked by steam engines. A Preservation Group is working to re-open the line as a Tourist Railway. Animated figures are from Neoklai75's Site and cuttings are from SirGibby'd Scenery Series.
