Wendouree to Skipton 1
The Railway from Linton Junction to Skipton was built in stages. The first part iopened in 1883 to Scarsdale. The line from Scarsdale to Newton and Linton was opened in 1890. The branch from Newtown to Skipton was opened in 1916. The connection to Beeac was finished in 1913. The viaduct at Smythes Creek is one of the largest railway viaducts in Victoria. The cutting between Newtown and Linton is the second largest ever cut in Victoria. The line is at present a bicycle track, but could reopen to serve a recycling plant near Skipton. The passenger traffic was mainly school trains to Ballarat . Freight was mainly agricultural pastoral and gravel. The line closed in 1985. The Lake Wendouree Horse tram is shown as in 1887.
