The Alexander Railroad (the Junebug Line) operates freight service from Taylorsville to a connection with Norfolk Southern at Statesville, 18.59 miles. Traffic includes grain, pulpwood, sand, cement, fertilizer and lumber, 3,000 cars annually.

The Alexander was incorporated December 7, 1945 to acquire a Southern Railway branch that was being abandoned. It was built as the Statesville & Western Railroad, incorporated March 3, 1887 and opened in September of that year. The Richmond & Danville leased the line for 99 years starting October 27, 1888. On September 8, 1894, it was conveyed to Southern.

The line has never carried passengers.
