NZR F Class Locomotive
Built in 1880 by Dubbs & Co. of Glasgow.
Henry Dubs, was born at Darmstradt, Germany in 1816.
He started his locomotive works in 1864 which was destined to be the second largest locomotive works in Britain.
Specs:
Weight: 20 Tons
Pressure: 120lbs/square inch
Wheels: 3 foot half inch
Water: 450 gals
Fuel: 30cu FT.
These locos had a long working life without major overhaul.
Boilers could last 40 years. The weight over six wheels could put many a larger locomotive to shame when traction was the order of the day. They could pull long freight trains at 40mph on 1-50 grades. A credit to the designer and quality build.
Later models had Westinghouse brakes, steam heating equipment and electric lighting.
This loco has been updated for 2009/10 by Bill69 and will be removed from circulation if Greg Baker asks me to do so.
