Queensland Rail QZS 12+

The QZS sleeper wagons were converted from QLX box wagons to improve the efficiency of timber sleeper handling and delivery during the 1990’s. They were built effectively as container wagons, with a range of infrastructure containers also constructed at the same time for use in conjunction with them. These were the QZSC class (58 sleeper transport and discharge containers), QZSE (2 unloader enclosure containers), QZSG (2 unloader garage containers), QZSS (2 unloader servicing containers) and QZSW (2 enclosed workshop containers), in total 66 20 foot containers. The class also carried the ISC type sleeper transport containers, 89 of these being built in 1995 and 1996.
