NSWGR S Truck Planks

NSWGR S Truck
The S truck was the most common goods wagon found on the NSWGR for over 50 years. The design first appeared in November 1906, with the wagons undergoing many variations in service. Steel floors were fitted, but replaced with timber due to corrosion problems. Wooden sides were replaced with steel sides, underframes rebuilt, automatic couplers replaced the 3 link variety and so on. A complete rebuild by the Clyde Wagon Works was carried out in the 1940's - 1950's, with the number of bodies on the Shop Order sitting at 10,000 in March 1950.

This model is based on the S wagon design circa 1953, where the body was fitted without buffers and with grade control equipment. It is depicted with a load of sawn timber stacked in a typical oversize configuration. This was a common sight in northern NSW where S trucks were often used to transport timber from forest sawmills to city centres.
