N.Z. Ongarue
This route-build is yet unfinished, but is pleasently explorable as is. Feel free to complete it or alter as you wish. Requires TS2010 version 41615 or later. This is a factual route of the once renowned timber milling operation at Ongarue, New Zealand. This operation was built, maintained and operated by Ellis and Burnand Ltd , a privately owned company.
- 530 tiles of 30m Dem terrain hgt data by NZDEM and processed using TransDem 2.
- Built in the 1960's era, includes the old Okahukura station/yard and S.O.L. junction.
- The bush tram section of this route is complete as far as camp 11 at Waione, but the remainder is unfinished. I have left the Dem terrain and track vector lines in place should anyone wish to finish it.
- An excellent reference for this route is Ken Andersons book : Sparse Timber Sawmillers Ellis And Burnand Ltd Sawmillers And Timber Merchants in Ongarue.I think most major town libraries have this book.
- At present there is approx 27km of bush tram complete.
- If bush tram is not your thing, then there is approx. 25km of N.I.M.T. from Ongarue down to Taumaranui.
