A8 Class President's Conference Committee Type Streetcar

In 1938, the TTC began operating the PCC streetcars in Toronto. The A1 - A5 classes were air-electric, wheras the later A6, A7, and A8 classes were strictly electrically operated. The A8's appeared in 1950, and were the last new PCC cars ordered by the TTC. The TTC still retains two of these cars on its roster for Charter service, Nos. 4500 and 4549. Interestingly, 4500 is the first A8 to arrive, and 4549 is the last. Coincidence? Nah.
