Boston & Albany 40ft Boxcar Wood #

The Rock Island acquired 5,500 of these cars from several builders between 1913 and 1915. The design was a clone of the Fowler-patent boxcars with all patented components redacted to avoid royalties. This model represents the 2,500 units built by Pullman-Standard. Sister cars continued being constructed well into the 1920s, albiet with steel ends. The early cars retained the K triple valve until retirement. As late as 1950, 474 of these Pullman-built cars remained in service.
