Thomas is a tank engine who runs his branch line on Sodor with his coaches, Annie and Clarabel. From his first appearance in the series through to Branch Line Engines, the unique front-dipped footplate was a source of conflict for Awdry. An incident involving the stationmaster's house allowed the problem to be fixed.
