The MBTA ordered over 100 of these cars in the mid 80's in response to their continued troubles with their Boeing-Vertol Type 6 LRVs. The Type 7 proved to be very reliable and quickly became the backbone of the Green Line. Type 7 LRVs are the most common equipment currently seen on the three Green Line branches that run LRVs. The MBTA operates these cars in city streets, in subway tunnels, on elevated tracks, and on high speed railway runs.
