TYPE6 MBTA Rehab B

United States Standard Light Rail Vehicle (LRV)
Builder: Boeing-Vertol Year: 1978
Length: 71 ft Width: 106 inches
Seats: 46
Massachusetts Bay Transportation Athority
After Door and AC Rehabilitation

Resulting from the Nixon Administration's 'Buy American' policy, the LRV was to be a standardized American made modern trolley to follow in the footsteps of the very successful PCC. Originally built for The Boston MBTA and San Francisco MUNI, the cars were well liked by riders but had many maintenance problems resulting from the fact that Boeing-Vertol was a helicopter company. In the end no other city bought these vehicles and the two that did have been replacing them steadily ever since. The MBTA operates these in city streets, in subway tunnels, on elevated tracks, and on high speed railway runs.
