Mesh library of NSWGR buffers, couplers and hoses
Mesh library representing buffers and the idle and coupled state of various types of couplers and air hoses in use by NSWGR in the mid 20th century.
Attachment points for library items must be provided in the traincar models which reference the library. Only 2 attachment points are required: 'a.couple0' for the front coupler and hose, and 'a.couple1' for the rear.
The attachment points should have an X,Y,Z position of (0,y,0) where 'y' is flush with the buffer beam onto which the coupler and air hose is to attach. The orientation of 'a.couple1' must be rotated on its Z-axis by 180 degrees.
If no couplers or hoses are required at one end of a vehicle, omit the attachment point for that end.
For the library meshes to appear correctly in game, the traincar models of NSWGR rolling stock must conform to the following NSWGR standards of the mid 20th century:
- Centre of wagon end beam to which coupler attaches is 1.041m above rail head
- Separation between coupled wagon end beams is 1.1m for buffered wagons and 0.845m for knuckle-coupled wagons. a.limfront/a.limback, the contact point between the front/back of a buffered wagon and another to which it is coupled, is therefore 1.12/2 = 0.55m more negative/positive on the y-axis than is a.couple0/1. For knuckle couplers, the difference is 0.845/2 = 0.423m.
- Over the transition from buffered to knuckle couplers in the 1940s and 1950s, some locomotives were fitted with dual couplers, known as 'unit drawgear', that could be swung 90 degrees to activate either a screwlink or knuckle coupler. The knuckle coupler of unit drawgear projects further from vehicle body than a standard knuckle coupler to accommodate the knuckle when swung out of use. The required distance between the vehicle buffer beam (a.couple0/1) and the coupling contact point (a.limfront/back) is the dsame as for a screwlink coupling (0.55m). For this reason, the 'buffered' airhose model used for the screwlink mode can also be used for the knuckle mode of the dual coupler.
The toggling between the idle and coupled states of couplers and hoses from the library must be handled by the script of each traincar which employs the meshes from the library. The script must detect whether each end of a vehicle is coupled or not, then assert the visibility of the appropriate mesh from the library.
The traincar script can be assisted in this decision by making calls to the Active Coupling System (ACS) Library, <kuid2:60850:89100:9>.
Here is a list of LM files in this library. Since LOD is implemented for all mesh types, specify LM files, not IM files, in any reference to the library in the config file of a traincar asset.

VE85: The file 'knuckle_idle.lm' is provided in LM format, however the high-detail mesh is comprised of less than 300 polygons. This may have a negative impact on performance.
