LMS Ex-CR Cardean 4-6-0 (1923-28)
The Cardeans, or '903' class, were built to the design of John F. McIntosh and based on the earlier '49' class 4-6-0s. They were a class of five built specifically for main line services from Glasgow-Carlisle. No. 903 'Cardean' went on to become one of the most famous Scottish locomotives, but all in all they weren't a great success and McIntosh built no passenger 4-6-0s afterwards. One, no. 907, was involved in the Quintinshill Rail Disaster in 1915 and was subsequently withdrawn. The rest survived into LMS ownership and were scrapped between 1927 and 1930. None are preserved.
This model includes numbers for the four members of the class that survived into LMS ownership.
