BR Ex-LNER A8 4-6-2T

The A8s were Gresley's rebuilds of the Raven 'H1' 4-4-4 tanks for the NER. During the 1920s, newly built Robinson A5 tanks were put to work on similar duties to the H1s, and the six-coupled wheel configuration proved to be more reliable than the four-coupled configuration of the H1. In 1931 the first 'A8' rebuild emerged, and between 1934 and 1936 the remainder of the H1's were rebuilt as A8s. They lasted into BR ownership before being withdrawn between 1957 and 1960.
