BR Class 423 4VEP TSO SWT

Formation: DTC + TSO + MBSO + DTC

4VEP in Southwest Trains livery as carried from 1996, when Stagecoach took over the former South Western division of Network Southeast upon privatisation. This livery was carried until withdrawal between 2004 - 05, when the entire semi stopper and express electric fleet was replaced by Class 444 and 450 desiro units.

The British Rail Class 423 4-VEP (Vestibule Electro Pneumatic) 3rd Rail EMU was argueably the backbone of British Rails Southern region fleet for 38 years (1967 - 2005), although intended for semi stopper work, they were often seen on express and suburban services as well. They were the most numerous of all Southern EMU types, with 194 built, they operated on all three Southern Region Divisions (Those being South Eastern, South Central and South Western Divisions).
