Union Pacific SD90MAC-H (Weathered)

Union Pacific SD90MAC-H

This is the first 6000hp version of the SD90MAC. The only external difference between the 4300hp SD9043MAC and SD90MAC-H is the engine compartment, which is square on the SD9043MAC and beveled on the SD90MAC-H. The SD90MAC-H also has two exhaust outlets, rather than the one on the SD9043MAC.

Twenty two units were built between 1996 and 1999. UP was the only railroad to buy them. Another 40 6000hp SD90MAC - H2's were built with a redesigned cab and leased to UP in 2000. These were all returned to EMD in 2005-2006, when the lease expired. The 22 SD90MAC-H's are the only SD90MAC-H's remaining in service with U.P. Four SD90MAC-H2's remain in service with Canadian Pacific.

Prototypical running numbers are currently 8500 and 8911-31. Prior to October 2005 they were 8500-8521. From 1996-98, three units were numbered 8201-8203.
