A Pommie K2 E-spec

This enginespec is for the Victorian Railways A Class 4-4-0 Locomotive built by Phoenix Foundry Ballaarat 1889-90.

In 1887 to 1888 the Phoenix Foundry built 20 light lines 4-4-0 locomotives to become D Class, from late 1889 the last of the Y Class orders where where being completed and new orders where placed for a main line 4-4-0 which was almost identical to the D Class except it was slightly longer with 6ft 0in diameter wheels and heavier, when it was being built the railways wanted new locomotives to have changable parts so most of the component from Y Class such as Smokebox, Boiler, cylinders, valve gear was used. The locomotive was classified A Class to be known as 'New' A Class since it was the same power rating as the earlier 1884 English built Beyer Peacock A Class which was later known as 'Old' A Class.
