FA V Class Enginespec
Following the destruction of two G class locomotives in 1999, Freight Australia ordered a single GT46 Ace from EDI Rail, 2002, When it entered service the interesting thing is it followed the Traditional Victorian Railways Consecutive Numbering System and was given the next number following the last G Class '543' and classifed as V Class No. 544, although it was classified as a Victorian Locomotive it never ran on the Broad Gauge and only saw use between Melbourne and Perth on the Standard Gauge running SCT Logistics, the Locomotive is now owned by Pacific National as of Feb 2004.
The Locomotive was a prototype fitted with A/C computerised traction control system which boosted adhesion to 46% and a dynamic brake which could bring freights of 1200 tonnes to a crawl on the 1in50 grades, after this break through more locomotives where built to these specs and classified as LDP/SCT/6000 Class with a more advanced type of AC motor.
