Free Haven MR (07-28-20)

This layout is heavily inspired by Russell Schoof’s Free Have Terminal (Model Railroader, October 1990, and 48 Top Notch Track Plans, 1993), and my memories of the SP working the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach. I operate it as follows, outbound cars are taken to staging in the morning and the engines return with an inbound cut of cars. The cars are sorted by destination and then switchers deliver the cars and bring outbounds back to the yard. Industries served by ship/barge and rail include a grain facility, a fuel terminal, a warehouse pier, a scrap yard, and a lumber transfer facility. Industries served by rail only include general goods/transfer warehouses, a team track, a cold storage warehouse, metal fabricators, a paper company, and a distribution company. Reefers, grain hoppers, tank cars, box cars, chemical hoppers, coil cars, high-cube boxcars, gondolas, and center-beams all have a home on this version of Free Haven Terminal. The main yard (staging) can be set up for 5 days’ worth of inbound transfers which will provide weeks of uninterrupted operation. There are too many to list, but want need to thank all the content creators who made this possible. I apologize for not creating any sessions, but I have not learned how to create them and the operating concept for this layout is simple.
