Engine House Rogers Pass 1887 MBC054

Rogers Pass Engine House was built shortly after completion of the Canadian Pacific Railway’s line through the pass in 1885. It was destroyed in 1899 by an avalanche which roared down the slopes of Tupper Mountain taking out not only the engine house, but the entire yard site including the station. Seven people lost their lives. In the wake of the disaster, Roger Pass Station and yard were rebuilt a mile (1.6 km) to the west near todays tourist facility.
Polys = 233.
