C-41 #1015

D&RGW C-41 Consolidated #1015

Built for the Denver & Rio Grande by the Baldwin Locomotive Works in 1902, these consolidated locomotives were used mainly to haul frieght. They were originally built as compounds with 17 and 28x28 inch cylinders. The #1015 with builders plate #20696 was originally numbered #1115 and listed as a class 190 engine. In 1924 the D&RGW restructered their classification system and based it on tractive effort. The 190 class was renamed to C-41. C for Consolidated, and 41 for the ammount of tractive effort developed by these locomotives. Also in 1924 all but ten of these locomotives were converted to a simple design with 21x30 inch cylinders. The remaining 10 were converted to narrow gauge mikados and re-classified as K-37s. At the same time they renumbered all of the C-41s. The #1115 then became the #1015. In March of 1947 the #1015 was dismantled.
