USA Class 250 #256

The #470 is a K-28 Class Mikado locomotive built in 1923 by the American Locomotive Works (ALCO) of Schenectady, NY. The K-28's were referred to as the 'Sports' model due to their low slung appearance. The #470 started its service with the D&RGW RR. In 1942 the US Army requisitioned seven K-28's (#470-472, 474, 475, 477 and 479) for use on the White Pass & Yukon during WW2. After their use on the WP&Y they were returned to Seattle, WA where they were scrapped in 1946.
