K-27 #458

The #458 is a K-27 Class Mikado locomotive built in 1903 by the Baldwin Locomotive Works of Philidelphia, PA. The K-27's were affectionately referred to as 'Mudhens' due to their unfortunate tendancy to derail when they first went into service. The #458 started its service with the D&RGW RR. And for most of her life she ran the narrow gauge lines in Southwestern Colorado. She was sold to National Ry's of Mexico and renumbered to #400 in December, 1941. In July, 1949 she was converted to standard gauge and renumbered #2251. Finally she was dismantled 1963.
