K-36 #481

D&RGW K-36 Mikado #481

The K-36 class was built for the D&RGW by the Baldwin Locomotive Works of Philidelphia, PA in 1925. There were 10 locomotives of this class built. They were numbered #480 to 489. The K-36's were the last new narrow gauge engines purchased by the D&RGW. In March of 1981 the Durangno & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad aquired the #480. The #481 is still in operation on the D&S.
