Dearnby & District V2.2: Steel Train Arrival (player session)

IMPORTANT: This player-based shunting session was developed originally by heinrich505 and has simply been adapted to merge with EIT controlled AI traffic. It and the underlying route utilise assets from the Settle and Carlisle DLC pack. Other dependencies can be downloaded from the DLS. The session is best run in DCC mode, and you are advised also to avoid saving and resuming since unpredictable results are likely to occur. If you need to take a break, simply use the Trainz Pause / Unpause facility.

You are Jan, sitting in your 0-6-0 shunter, at the back of the Dearne Steel Mill. Alan is due to arrive momentarily, with a long consist. The loaded conflats will have to be unloaded at the overhead gantry crane, and then cable spools loaded onto the empty conflats. The other wagons will be loaded per specifications that the Steel MIN workers have already been advised. You will only have to shove those wagons forward on to the left-most track and have them loaded where the mass of steel coils are lying about, under the overhang.

Alan will drive the consist deep into the yard, and then he will stop before the west end criss-cross tracks, as he needs to get his loco out and around the consist. He will uncouple and then drive over the westerly criss-cross tracks and onto the inner shunt track. Once he gets to his stopping point, you will have to drive to the same criss-cross tracks and get around the consist so you can pull the train further into the yard. As it is, the train is too long, so it is blocking the eastern criss-cross tracks, and Alan needs to get across them in order to stage his engine to receive the loaded wagons.

You have around 4 minutes to pull the long consist further into the yard. Don't try to unload any of the wagons just yet. Pull the consist in so that the brake van is past the gantry crane at the eastern end of the Apollo building. Then stand by, and Alan will let off a blast of his whistle when he is starting to make his next maneuver. Make sure you've pulled the wagons clear of the criss-cross tracks by then.

Once Alan gets past the long consist and crosses over the easterly criss-cross tracks, he will proceed past the overhang and stop at his staging location. You now have around 35 minutes to unload and load the wagons, making sure that the 5 BR conflats are at the rear of the train, and the brake van is at the very rear of the train. How you load/unload the wagons is up to you, as you are an experienced shunter and know these quay tracks like the back of your hand. You will have to manipulate the junctions yourself, and you have yard permission to drive through any unclear signals, because you have the yard to yourself and Alan is clear of any maneuvers you will have to make.

As you are on Alan's schedule, Alan will help you by blasting his whistle once when 30 minutes have passed. When you hear his second whistle, that means he is backing up to couple to his train, so you should have already set the train out for him, in proper order, and driven your engine to an adjacent track by that time.

The train arrangement should look like this when you are done:

Note - Unloading and loading at the gantry crane is done one wagon at a time. Position the wagon directly below the crane and the unloading/loading will occur. Keep in mind that all unloading is done on the southern (closest to the water) track, and loading is done on the northern (closest to the building) track.

The spot to stage the loaded consist is just slightly beyond the overhang, where the junction cabling crosses the track. Push the wagons to this spot and then decouple and move your engine to an adjacent track for safety. Don't push the consist to couple with Alan's engine. When it is time, Alan will back up to couple to the completed train. If you finish sooner than 35 minutes, you can jump
