Early Conrail
1976-1990. After the bankruptcy of many Northeastern railroads, The US Government revived Railroad freight and created Conrail. The early operations used locomotives and rolling stock from railroads that were consumed by Conrail. The Central Railroad of New Jersey still ran passenger trains in the area.
