Weathered reskin of Tom Youngs BR BBA Steel Carrier

690 of these wagons were built at Ashford works between 1974 and 1980. Capable of carrying 75 tons of steel in coil, slab or ingot form, they were used across the country. When carrying coils, these were initially loaded as seen here, which was called 'eye-to-the-sky'. Due to the difficulties of loading and unloading these, many were later modified with cradles to carry coils in different orientations.
