These wagons were used throughout the QR network from the late 1940s to the 1980s and were the work horse wagon. They carried everything from boats to timber sleepers. Several had the side doors removed and lashing attached for use in pine board traffic from Gympie to Brisbane and were reclassified as FJB. All of the FJS and the variants have been withdrawn from the QR network. Towards the end of their working life they were nearly all reclassified as 'Z' class wagons. As fas as I am aware there is only one left in existance at the shunting school in Rockhampton.

For many years these wagons carried stick sugar cane from south of Sarina (Central Queensland) to the Plane Creek Sugar mill at Sarina.
