These wagons were used for general traffic and were used throughout the QR network. They have been all withdrawin since the early 1990s. Most are now used as sheds in maintenace yards or sold to the general public as same.

When the wagons were iused to carry explosives they were temporarily restencled to EALY. Towards the end of their lives some of the ALYs were also reclassifed to MALY and used exclusively by the Maintenance section of QR.
