SR Murphy Branch CTC

This layout is modeled after the trackplan published in the October 1984 issue of Model Railroader magazine about the Southern Railway's Murphy Branch. Typically this line operated (at the time the article was published) short trains with multiple-unit sets of GP30's and GP38's, and probably other four-axle units. Red Marble Grade was the ruling grade on the line, averaging 1.7% with a short stretch of more than 4% near milepost 89.9. Interchange with the Louisville & Nashville at Murphy was infrequent at best. This version is signalled simply because I thought it would be fun to do, not that there was ever enough traffic to warrant it. HUGE thanks to Rob Crawford!
