S4 G&W 36
Genesee & Wyoming is a small salt-hauler in upstate New York near
Rochester. They were all-Alco until forced to buy EMD MP15's to
upgrade their motive power plus some second-hand EMDs to expand
operations. They owned S2's, S4's, and RS1's, M.U.ing them together
to haul salt trains to a Conrail and/or Chessie (B&O) interchange.
Today they own a variety of railroads around the world, including the
Buffalo & Pittsburgh and Rochester & Southern, the Portland & Western,
the St. Lawrence & Atlantic, the Australia Western, and the Illinois &
Midland (former Chicago & Illinois Midland).
This is an Alco S4. Produced by American Locomotive Works from 1950 until 1961. This engine uses the McIntosh & Seymour 539 engine producing from 660 to 1000 H.P. Built in Schenectady, N.Y. Modeled for use in TrainZ by Mark Hoffman.
