Corn Germ Meal
The Corn Germ contains the embryonic protein and about 85 percent of the total oil in a corn kernel. The dry fractionated corn germ has an oil content on average of 17-22%. Oil is extracted from the germ through a solvent extraction process using hexane to yield almost 90% of the total oil content. The solvent is removed by evaporation, recovered and reused. The oil is sold as crude food-grade oil to be processed at a refinery. The oil depleted germ is cleaned of solvent and toasted. The resulting high protein corn germ meal is sold as Livestock Feed.
