Dearnby & District 1950s - 1960s V1: 1960s Session

This is a base session with consists generated from & to portals, via Central Portal Control. Some are through trains, Both goods and passenger trains are generated, some of which are Instant Loaded. Some passenger trains stop at stations en route. Some goods trains call at Industries where they will load or unload their cargo. There are also a number of passenger shuttle services that operate continuously over their to & fro routes, including a narrow gauge tourist shuttle.

This session is meant also to serve as a background on which to build other sessions of various kinds involving various tasks.

There are three user tasks for those who wish themselves to drive consists.

1. Take the Western Pullman from the Dearne on Sea West Terminus Station non-stop to St Bennet and, after unloding and reloading, back again. You must beware of other trains during the journey, giving way where necessary. You must operate any points (switches) yourself to navigate the train. You may overtake other trains, if possible, on the 4-track sections but you must not break speed limits and you should stay on the mainline tracks rather than going via the various goods loops.

2. Take the Class 14 located at Casterford Station around the route to collect up old Ocean and Royal Mail carrages located in various sidings at: Dearne on Sea West Yard; Casterford; Dearnby; Frowhill; Westacott South Yard. You must decide the best order for collecting them, which may require you to run around the carriages at one or more places. When all the carriages have been collected, they should be taken to one of the free Frowhill Yard tracks, for later transportation to the breaker's yard.

3. Take the BR Class 25 Goods loco from Dearne on Sea Shed Road 8 to collect goods wagons in DoS East Yard and from two goods quays within the dock area, making sure that the brake van is the last vehicle in the consist. Take the goods to Westacott South Siding 1 and leave them there. Take the Class 25 Goods loco to collect the MDV and MCV wagons in the siding near Westacott Station bay. Take the MDVs and MCVs ro Westacott South Yard where the Class 25 can run around the wagons. Reconnect to the other end of the MDV/MCV consist and take it via Hawkswell, Braster and Casterford to the Dearnwick portal.

Most of the trains going about the route are under AI control with corresponding automatic signal responses. Now and then there will be a contention for a set of points (switch) which you should solve by temporarily taking manual control of one of the trains so you can change the points (switch) involved. The NG line is unsignalled at present and there are a couple of places where you may need to manually switch the popints before the train can proceed.
