Steam Heritage Trip
A group of WWII veterans and their families are on a heritage trip across America to re-enact their troop train journey from the East to West Coasts during the War. Earlier this morning their train journey commenced from Omaha on its way to an overnight stop at Paxton.
You are the relief engineer for the trip from Brady to Paxton, with a short stop at the site of the North Platte Canteen. The North Platte Canteen (also known as the Service Mens Canteen in the Union Pacific Railroad station at North Platte) was a railroad stop manned by local citizens of North Platte, Nebraska, that operated from Christmas Day 1941 to April 1, 1946. Its purpose was to provide refreshments and hospitality to soldiers who were travelling through the area on the way to war during their ten to fifteen minute stopovers.
Your task is to drive the train, first to North Platte where you will stop for 10 minutes. While you are in the siding near the North Platte Canteen Memorial, top up your water. Once all your passengers are back aboard, head on through the Bailey Yards to Paxton Station, Track 1. Once your passengers have alighted move your train forward through the Co-op Spur. Once clear of Co-op Spur 1, throw the switch and back your train into Paxton Yard 1 for an overnight stay.
Owing to the age and fragility of your passengers, you are only to travel at a maximum speed of 40 mph. Being a Sunday, you won’t have much rail traffic to bother you. All junctions have been set for you.
