DWWR XX
The Dublin, Wicklow and Wexford Railway had a shortage of tank engines and goods engines for the New Ross extension in 1896 and so a solution was made to let Kitson & Co of Leeds to buid them two 0-6-2T engines that had been sucessful on British railways, the DWWR made it clear to Kitson not to make the engines more than 60tons 4cwt so that the engines could climb up the incline to Palace East. However when they arrived they were prone to derailments, after a derailment in the GS&WR North Wall goods yard in Dublin, both the engine was taken to the GS&WR Works at Inchicore to weigh them, they weighed 64tons, 4tons over the limit. After this they were reduced to running on the Harcourt Branch. They were later rebuilt as tender engines to work on the Dublin Harcourt-Shillelagh Goods and they also worked cattle specials. Includes AJS Script.
